10.2 INDICATIONS OF UNIFIED ACTION BY THE BOARD, INCLUDING EVIDENCE OF EFFECTIVE
RESOLUTION OF DIFFERENCES

The GPISD Board of Trustees is occasionally faced with addressing controversial or difficult
issues� Such issues in the recent past have included our 2024 bond election and the concern
of returning Special Education students to their home campus to further improve service for
ALL students� The resolution to each of these sensitive issues was reached after thoughtful
consideration for all involved parties, adherence to existing board policy, and when
appropriate, consideration of the advice of counsel�

Specifically, the 2024 bond election faced opposition by some individual community
members� To address their concerns, Board members reached out to provide factual
information in response to their questions about the bond and to ensure they could access
additional information on the District’s website�

The superintendent and district leaders, with the encouragement of trustees, formed a
committee to proactively address the concerns raised by employees, administrators, and
parents regarding returning students to their home campuses for special education services�
While there were differences of opinion prior to the implementation, in the end, the initiative
was successfully implemented in a two-phase plan� Through transparency and consistent
communication, Board trustees were supportive and prepared to address any community
members or employees who contacted them�
