We Are All In This Together

he often-used phrase, “It takes a village to raise a
child” was put to the test in the 2020-2021 school year.
TMultiple challenges taught us it requires maximum effort,
flexibility, and determination to protect our children, family,
and community. Each one of us individually had an important
role in the collective effort to support and protect each other
as we all did our part to wear a mask, wash our hands and
open our hearts to change. Our Superintendent of Schools, Dr.
John Moore, delivered one important message to our school
community throughout the year, “We are all in this together.”
In Galena Park I.S.D., we became one village dedicated to
multiple goals, focused on our mission of preparing students to
become productive citizens and life-long learners.

The challenges of maintaining the integrity of the educational
system during the pandemic were immense for teachers, parents,
and most of all students. Teachers were immediately tasked with
modifying their method of teaching to become virtual instructors,
while GPISD families took on a greater role in their student’s
learning. Parent responsibility escalated in their child’s education
as they were asked to quickly take a more active role in their
child’s coursework. The rewards of the collaboration, enhanced
cooperation, and partnership between parents, teachers, and the
community will be felt for many years to come.

One of the many keys to assuring future success is to continue the long-standing tradition of
“Excellence In All, For All, By All” through our many partnerships. Many of our former students
have come back to the community to become District employees, community leaders, or
local business owners. The collective efforts of partnerships with community groups such as the
Houston Food Bank, East Harris County Empowerment Council, Veritex Community Bank, the
Rotary Club of North Shore, the GPISD Education Foundation, and the Harris County Precinct
3 Community Outreach Division have helped to support the needs of our students and their
       families.

As the excitement for the 2021-2022 school year builds, we look forward to safely returning
to in-person instruction. It is critical we all apply the lessons learned from this past
year and build upon the enhanced sense of community. As students return to
face-to-face instruction, family and community involvement in the educational
process remains critical to their success. We encourage you to seek volunteer
opportunities in support of Galena Park I.S.D. and our most important asset, our
       students.

Last year solidified the importance of community support and served as an
important reminder - “We are all in this together.” We are committed to
providing quality education for our students, while seeking to build even
stronger partnerships in the community in order to continue our tradition
of excellence in Galena Park I.S.D. We can’t wait to see everyone
back on campuses for the first day of school, August 12, 2021, and look
forward to working together in the 2021-2022 school year.
                                                                                              John C. Moore, Jr., Ed.D.
                                                                                              Superintendent of Schools
