Stepping Up To The Plate




              hurchill Couch, junior at Galena Park High School, was
              recognized by Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia at a
       Crecent virtual Harris County Commissioners Court meeting.


       Commissioner Garcia presented a resolution commending
       Churchill Couch, who saw a need and stepped up to the plate
       to help the Galena Park and Jacinto City communities during the
       COVID-19 pandemic. Couch developed ‘The Galena Park and
       Jacinto City Help Center’ website to make it easier for community
       members to find COVID-19 resources, including mental health
       support, social service resources, virtual learning resources, help
       hotlines and financial support.

       Spreading Awareness




              epresentative Sylvia Garcia named Osvaldo Castro and Matthew Stith, North Shore
              Senior High School students, as the winners of the 2020 Congressional App Challenge in
       Rthe 29  District of Texas (TX-29).

       Castro and Stith created the CovEd-19 app. When asked what inspired the creation of
       CovEd-19, the young men said, “We knew we wanted to make an app about a current
       problem relevant to society. We came up with the idea of making a Coronavirus game and
       thought it would be a great way to spread awareness about the danger of COVID-19 in a
       way that would be interesting.”


       Over 6,500 students registered for the 2020 Congressional App
       Challenge. Students created and submitted
       3,088 functioning apps, marking the
       end of an extremely successful
       Congressional App Challenge
       amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
       Over 300 members of Congress
       hosted Congressional App
       Challenges in their districts across
       49 states, Puerto Rico, the Mariana
       Islands and Washington, DC.
