When our values and practices align, we have the power to create productive citizens
and lifelong learners. In Galena Park ISD, we firmly believe a quality education begins
in pre-kindergarten and extends well beyond high school graduation. Because of this
belief, our motto “Galena Park ISD… a Great Place to Be,” rings true, and our core
principles of family, pride, fairness, and respect are proudly displayed not only on our
campuses but throughout the community.

One of the many ways we embody our core principle of family and fulfill our mission
of “creating productive citizens and lifelong learners” is through the Homegrown
Program for GPISD graduates who are interested in entering the field of education. The
Homegrown Program provides the opportunity to develop and recruit future educators

for Galena Park ISD. When alumni complete the Homegrown Program, many will
become full-time employees. One of our proudest accomplishments has included
welcoming over 70 GPISD alumni back “home” as educators in the district that once
served them as students.

many of our community members show

their support by placing a ‘Great Place
To Be’ yard sign in front of their homes,
attending district events, volunteering their time, and donating resources.

The unwavering support received from the school community motivated us to launch
our first-ever billboard campaign to showcase why Galena Park ISD is “A Great Place
To Be.” The billboard campaign has been the “talk of the town” and extremely well-
received by the community.

students, and our teachers, administrators,

families, and community partners blend
together harmoniously to make GPISD a
district of excellence.
