4.2 EVIDENCE OF TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATED INTO THE LEARNING PROCESS

The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees sets a high priority on integrating technology into the learning
process, promoting high levels of student success, and helping learners develop their technological skills, so
they are best prepared for success in college or the workplace.

        Connectivity
With the support of the Board of Trustees, the district has a robust, updated technology infrastructure
including a 10 GB Wide Area Network, 3 GB Internet access, and 1GB added to each desktop
computer.  Through the addition of the ClassLink program, students have access to all of their resources
with a single click.  In addition to connectivity and resources, the District is designated as a Google Apps
For Education (GAFE) district.  GAFE provides employees and students with all Google Drive programs
including Google Classroom and Gmail for secondary students. Teachers use Google Classroom to deliver
instruction and through the numerous technology applications available in the District, students may
demonstrate mastery of learning objectives in a variety of ways.

        Devices
Classrooms and computer labs are equipped with a combination
of  iPads, Chromebooks, and Dell computers.  The District
also supports a Bring Your Own Device initiative at secondary
campuses to increase student participation in technology-integrated
lessons.  The District is in the process of implementing interactive
display panels to replace data projectors.   Display panels provide
limitless options for lesson delivery, increased engagement for
students, and an innovative forum for collaboration.

                                              Support
The District’s generously-funded Technology Department is evidence
of the Board’s support of instructional technology integration. The
Technology Department consists of district-level administrators,  12
campus technicians and 20 campus Technology Instructional
Specialists (TIS). The TISs are certified teachers as well as certified
Google Educators who provide staff development, resources, and
integrated technology co-teach lessons.  Teachers and TISs work
together using their content-specific knowledge to facilitate
authentic experiences which advance student learning, creativity,
                                                   and innovation.
