4.3 SUPPORT FOR INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS INITIATED BY THE DISTRICT
In GPISD, the Board of Trustees supports innovative programs and designates a portion of the
budget each year to provide students with engaging opportunities and experiences to expand their
learning. GPISD partnered with San Jacinto Community College to create and open one of the first
Career & Technology Early College High Schools (CTE ECHS) in the state in the Fall of 2015. Further,
the Board of Trustees voted to support the addition of programs such as Maritime & Logistics and
Dental Assisting, through which 421 students received industry-recognized credentials in 2015-2016.
Career & Technology Early College High School
Our Board of Trustees envisioned expanding the
District’s Dual Credit offerings, enabling high
school students to get a head start earning college
credits, graduate from high school ready to enter the
workforce full-time, or earn vocational certifications
which can lead to lucrative career opportunities.
CTE ECHS students are enrolled in high school
and Dual Credit classes concurrently, and can take
up to 60 college hours at no charge to them over
the course of their high school career. Each year
since the school’s inception, GPISD has added a
9th grade class of 125 students who will graduate
with both a high school diploma and an Associates
of Technology degree and/or certification for
the workforce. Vocational certification program
offerings include:
• Associate of Applied Science
• Emergency Medical Technology
• Construction Management
• Air Conditioning Technology
• Electrical Technology
• Diesel Technology
• Business Management
• Health Information Management
• Engineering Design Graphics
• Certificate of Technology
• Medical Assistant
• Pharmacy Technician
