Our Goals

The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees is very systematic in evaluating their own
performance, and they hold themselves to very high standards which allows for
accountability and drives continuous improvement The long-standing members
help guide new members in the following processes to ensure annual self-
        evaluation:

             1. Establish Clear Goals and Objectives
First and foremost, the school board establishes clear and measurable goals which
align with the district’s mission statement and educational standards By reviewing
specific objectives and progress toward annual goals, they establish guidelines for
               continuous improvement
             2. Review Academic Performance
Students’ academic performance is among the most significant indicators of a
school board’s effectiveness The GPISD Board analyzes standardized test scores,
graduation rates, college readiness, and other academic metrics Regular reviews
of this data on the Board of Trustees Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Dashboard
reveals trends and areas needing improvement Through the District Planning and
Advisory Committee (DPAC) process, board members engage with educational
stakeholders, such as teachers and administrators, to further review their support
for the academic performance of students in our district
             3. Gather Stakeholder Feedback
Engagement with the community is vital for assessing a board’s success Galena
Park ISD utilizes long-range planning every 3-4 years to actively seek feedback
from various stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and students Surveys, open
forum parent meetings, and focus groups help facilitate open communication,
allowing the Board to evaluate its performance and highlight strengths and
weaknesses in its governance and decision-making processes
             4. Monitor Financial Health
Another critical area for assessment is a school board’s financial management
GPISD Board of Trustee members regularly review budgets, funding allocations,
and expenditures Ensuring that resources are used effectively to support
educational initiatives is essential The Board periodically reviews financial audits
and provides transparency in reporting to enhance self-reflection, community
trust, and accountability This Team of Eight prides itself on excellent financial
stewardship of the District’s limited resources
             5. Set Up an Accountability Framework
The accountability framework designed by the Galena Park ISD Team of Eight, in
collaboration with district leaders, allows members to track progress over time
Established Key Performance Indicators (KPI) linked to District goals measure
success systematically Regular reporting on these KPIs helps maintain focus and
               accountability
             6. Foster Continuous Improvement
Finally, Trustees believe a successful school board should embrace a culture of
continuous improvement This means regularly revisiting goals, adapting strategies
based on feedback and data, and ensuring that all decisions are made in the best
interests of students The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees regularly engage in
professional development opportunities to enhance their effectiveness
