08 PLACEMENT OF THE WELFARE OF CHILDREN SERVED BY THE SCHOOL
SYSTEM ABOVE PERSONAL OR POLITICAL MOTIVES
8.2 EXAMPLES OF PLACING DEDICATION TO THE
SCHOOL SYSTEM ABOVE THE SPECIAL FAVORS AND
POLICY EXCEPTIONS
Because of their dedication to prioritizing
providing appropriate mental, physical, and
emotional support for their students, staff, and
community, the Galena Park ISD Board of
Trustees continuously and consistently supports
efforts which extend or further services for the
community
The Galena Park ISD partnership with Legacy to
provide four school-based clinics has afforded
district students access to medical, mental health
and dental services they might otherwise not
have been able to receive Currently, Legacy has
served over 20,000 students and siblings across the
greater Galena Park ISD community Although the
services have been incredibly valued and utilized
by GPISD parents and students, there was a still
greater need in the community In (month, year),
the Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees determined
the critical need for access to dental care expanded further than the district enrollment,
therefore, an amendment was made to the Legacy Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
to allow non-GPISD students to also access dental services at the school-based location,
proving the Board trustees dedication to public service truly includes ALL students
Additionally, trustees
unanimously approved
opening the adaptive-inclusive
playground at S J Williamson
Elementary to parents,
students, and community
members during non-school
hours, including weekends
and holidays The school
board championed allowing
its stakeholders to enjoy
physical activities through the
availability of a safe, secure,
and accessible playground
