C ongratulations to Mrs. Fabiola Perez-Moran and Ms. Jasmine Aguilera for being selected

as the Houston Area Bilingual Education (HAABE) regional Teachers of the Year.

Mrs. Perez-Moran, bilingual second grade teacher at Woodland Acres Elementary School
(WAES), was named the HAABE Elementary Bilingual Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Perez-Moran
has been a bilingual teacher at WAES for 11 years.

Ms. Jasmine Aguilera was named the HAABE ESL Elementary Teacher of the Year. Ms. Aguilera
has been an educator in GPISD for six years and serves as a fourth grade teacher at Jacinto
City Elementary School.

Both teachers will advance to the Texas Association Bilingual Education (TABE) Teacher of the
Year competition.

Teachers Making The Grade

C onocoPhillips and the Houston Astros recognized two Galena Park I.S.D. math teachers

as 2021 ConocoPhillips Math Teachers of the Month.

Ms. Shannon York, Cobb Sixth Grade Campus math teacher, and Ms. Charlene Posadas,
Woodland Acres Elementary TWI (Two-Way Immersion) teacher, were chosen as the Math
Teachers of the Month for going above and beyond to help students, virtually and in-person.

ConocoPhillips, which focuses its Houston-area charitable giving on mathematics, sent York
and Posadas each a $1,000 check for their accomplishments as exceptional teachers who
inspire students’ interest and excitement in mathematics.

Orbit, the Houston Astros mascot, visited each classroom virtually, and York and Posadas will
be recognized virtually or in–person at an Astros game for being named a ConocoPhillips
Math Teacher of the Month.

Congratulations to Ms. York and Ms. Posadas on this
outstanding recognition.
