Sneaks and Reads:

       Giving Back One Step at a Time



                                                              In a heartwarming display of community spirit
                                                              and generosity, Galena Park ISD recently
                                                              hosted a fabulous two-day event with students
                                                              stepping up in style. In partnership with 4 Every
                                                              Kid and Soles 4 Souls, the district distributed an
                                                              impressive 376 pairs of sneakers to students,
                                                              ensuring they stride confidently into the future.
                                                              The fun didn’t stop there—students also
                                                              received a unique literary boost with free books
                                                              from the District’s beloved Book Express Bus.

                                                              March 6 , visiting every elementary school in

                                                              the District. The excitement was palpable as
                                                              students eagerly awaited their turn to receive

                                                              brand-new sneakers and immerse themselves in
      the pages of their new books. Organized by the dynamic duo of Nicole Johns, Program Director
      for School Support Services, and Tiffiny Lewis, the McKinney-Vento Social Services Specialist, the
      event showcased community collaboration at its finest.


      Enhancing the festive atmosphere, members of the Board of Trustees were present to witness the
      students’ joy and gratitude firsthand. Their presence emphasized the District’s commitment to
      supporting its students and fostering a nurturing educational environment. It was a celebration
      of unity and dedication, with everyone collaborating to ensure every child has the tools to
      succeed.


      The partnership with 4 Every Kid and Soles 4
      Souls was instrumental in making this event
      a resounding success. These organizations
      generously contributed to the sneaker
      giveaway, ensuring no student was left
      behind. Meanwhile, the District’s Book Express
      Bus rolled in with an array of books, turning
      the event into a literary treasure trove.
      Students were excited to choose books that
      piqued their interest, sparking a love for
      reading that will last a lifetime.

      The sneaker and book giveaway was more
      than just a fun event; it was a significant step
      toward empowering students and enhancing
      their educational experience. Proper
      footwear enables students to participate
      more actively in physical activities, while
      access to books promotes reading and
      learning beyond the classroom.
