4.5 EVIDENCE OF EXEMPLARY STUDENT PERFORMANCE

The GPISD Board of Trustees is proud to support student interest in competing at both academic
and co- and extra-curricular events and competitions.  These contests provide students with  engaging
opportunities to compete with their peers at the district, state and national levels, promoting leadership,
        career development, and self-efficacy.

The Board supports district programs, experiences, and contests by including them in a very generous
budget, attending performances and events, and recognizing outstanding achievement at Board
meetings.  The GPISD Board has acknowledged the success of more than 200 students over the past two
        years during regularly-scheduled Board meetings.

Many people across the nation recognize the name “Galena Park ISD” by the achievements of our student-
athletes.  GPISD is proud to have several alumni continue their athletic careers beyond high school to the
university, and eventually, to the professional level.  The hard work that contributes to this high level of
achievement often begins in elementary school, and the Board of Trustees fully supports, encourages, and
funds a robust program in physical education and athletics from elementary through high school years.
