4. Support for Educational


                                   Improvement Projects


             and School Transformation Initiatives





        Academic Honors
          •  21 GPISD students earned recognition for their writing at the
             Scholastic Art and Writing Contest including 13 honorable
             mention writing awards, 5 Silver Key writing awards, and 3
             Gold Key writing awards. In the last four years, two GPISD
             students have been awarded National Gold Key recognition,
             and the Board has voted to fund their national award
             ceremony at Carnegie Hall.
          •   GPISD CTE Robotics students have earned more than $1
             million in scholarships over the past 10 years.
          •  GPISD CTE students were awarded 17 1st place ribbons at
             the SkillsUSA state contest.
          •   GPISD CTE students were awarded five 1st place and eight
             2nd place awards at the Texas Public Service Association State
             Contest.
          •  GPISD CTE was awarded 1st place in the Family, Career, and
             Community Leaders of America Regional Contest.
          •  GPISD UIL Accounting and Calculator Applications teams
             were awarded 1st place at the UIL State Academic Meet. Jose
             Rodriguez, NSSHS student, won 1st place in the Calculator
             Applications category at the UIL State Academic Meet.
         
        Fine Arts Honors
        452 GPISD students had artwork selected for display in the
        Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Program.  The
        GPISD Art Department was also named to the Super Show Hall
        of Fame by The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
          •  119 secondary art students were awarded medals at the Texas
             Art Education Association (TAEA) Regional Visual Art
             Scholastic Event (VASE) competition, with five District  high
             school students advancing to state level competition.
          •  210 secondary band and choir students were named to the
             Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-Region
             Bands and Choirs, with 31 high school students advancing to the area
             contest and five named to TMEA All-State Band and Choir.
          •  The North Shore High School Marching Band placed 10th in the
             UIL State Marching Band Competition.
