3.1-DESCRIPTIVE DATA THAT PROFILES STUDENT PERFORMANCE AND GAINS IN STUDENT
PERFORMANCE
The road to success is very different for students today than it was a generation ago or even
just a few years ago� Rather than defining success by test scores, the Galena Park ISD Board
of Trustees looks for the academic, emotional, physical, and social value added to each
child� Simply stated, they expect all students, regardless of where they start or come from,
are provided the opportunity to expand their interests and attain success� GPISD links the
definition of success to the whole child to fulfill the bigger mission of preparing students to be
productive citizens and life-long learners� Everything planned, every process followed, and
every structure implemented is done with this mission in mind and one outcome considered:
student success�
Galena Park ISD student performance results consistently indicate year-over-year academic
gains, even considering the recently redesigned and more rigorous State of Texas
Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR)�
