02 ADHERENCE TO ADOPTED BOARD POLICIES
Phase 1, completed in the 2023-2024 school year, was based on
making internal moves of current staffing and held only minor
challenges However, Phase 2, implemented this year, required much
more difficult decision making for district leaders and the Board
86 students (out of 234) in two programs were being impacted
and asked to return to their home campus Additional staff was
warranted based on the intensive needs of the new programs, but
funding was not available to create new full-time positions The
agonizing decision was made to reduce staffing by 16 in other areas
and reclassify these positions to the Special Education programs
Board members expressed their concern regarding staff losing money or funded days as part
of the reclassification or principals not being involved in the recommendation and selection
of the reassigned staff It was also anticipated the affected staff members could potentially
contact Board members since they are integral members of the community Campus
administrators were anxious about receiving and/or losing staff and students
The Superintendent and district leaders, with the encouragement of trustees, formed a
committee to proactively address the concerns raised by employees, administrators, and
parents regarding returning students to their home campuses for special education services
While there were differences of opinion prior to the implementation, in the end, the initiative
was successfully implemented in a two-phase plan Through transparency and consistent
communication, trustees were supportive and prepared to address any community
members or employees who contacted them
2.5-AVAILABILITY OF BOARD POLICIES TO DISTRICT PERSONNEL AND COMMUNITY
The Board is committed to maintaining transparency regarding district policies Board
policies are maintained on the District webpage under the “Policy Online” tab and are
available for review
Employee handbooks containing local policies and related employee responsibilities are
disseminated electronically at the beginning of each year and remain available on the
District’s webpage Individual employees have the option of requesting hard copy or
accessing the handbook electronically In addition, Human Resource Services Department
administrators are charged with conducting training sessions for employees at every campus
and department twice each year, once in August and again at the beginning of the second
semester These sessions are provided to review the Code of Ethics, employment policies,
and employee responsibilities and to answer any questions employees might have regarding
policy updates
Parents and community members may view all monthly board meetings,
which are archived, on the District webpage Actions taken on board
policies are also listed in the monthly Board Updates and published on the BUILDING ON A
District webpage LEGACY
