Oyoung ladies from MacArthur Elementary,
Galena Park Elementary, Woodland Acres
Elementary, Cloverleaf Elementary and Sam Houston
Elementary enjoyed networking with each other
while attending workshops and sessions designed to
help them develop leadership skills.
The Women’s Empowerment Conference was all
about Girl Power! The conference provided these
young ladies an opportunity to learn from different
females in various industries. The presenters inspired the girls to chase their dreams and to never give up.
“The girls are getting hands-on experience and they are being exposed to different careers and
organizations they may want to be a part of when they are older,” Mrs. Michelle Cavazos, Sam Houston
Elementary principal, remarked.

hirley J. Williamson Elementary hosted their 2 Annual Male Summit in April. The purpose of the event
nd
was to inspire and empower the male student population to become successful and influential
leaders in the community.
S
Representatives from The SWAT Division at the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the Houston Dynamo,
the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce and the Positive Black Male Association were in
attendance to talk to the young men about career
choices and encourage them to become positive
role models at school and in their community.
“We learned the meaning of doing stuff for your
community,” Sean Gonzalez, Williamson Elementary
student, stated. “We also learned about good
actions and bad actions and how those actions can
impact our future.”
Galena Park ISD and Williamson Elementary would like
to thank all of the vendors who participated in the
Summit for positively impacting the lives of our students.
