erlyn Roldan, North Shore Senior High
School senior, was selected to receive
the 2019 Amazon Future Engineer
MScholarship.
Merlyn is one of the first recipients of the Amazon
Future Engineer Scholarship and is among a
select group of students to receive this four-year,
$10,000-a-year scholarship, which Amazon created
to spark and grow a generation of leaders in
computer science. In addition to the scholarship,
she was offered a paid software engineering
internship the summer after her freshman year.

for the work you’ve done so far, and an investment in you and the future we all share,” Jeff Wilke, CEO
Worldwide Consumer at Amazon, said. “We are thrilled to have you as part of our first Amazon Future
Engineer scholars, and eager to see the bold paths paved by you and your fellow scholarship recipients.”

errick Jackson, Early College High School
senior, received a $180,000 NROTC
Scholarship from the United States Marine
D Corps. The NROTC Marine Scholarship
gives recipients the opportunity to fully experience
everything college life has to offer, while preparing
for a higher purpose: leading the Marines to win our
nation's battles.
Jackson will attend the University of Texas in the fall
to pursue a bachelor's degree in Finance. While in
college, he will spend his first two summers learning
about the Navy and the United State Marine Corps,
and the third summer will be spent attending the
Officer Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia.
Upon graduation at the University of Texas, Jackson
will serve in the United States Marine Corps.
