SUPERINTENDENT'S STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD
hroughout the school year, 25 high
school students who are members of the
Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board
T(SAB) gather at the Administration Building
to bring their unique perspectives on issues related to
student performance, safety and security, and dropout
prevention. In addition to providing feedback, the SAB
members perform community service projects, create
an educational portfolio and complete an annual book
study.
The members of the SAB have demonstrated hard work,
initiative and an admirable commitment to making
Galena Park ISD the best it can be, while setting an
outstanding example for their peers. Their insight is invaluable in providing our students with the best
education possible.
For the first time, since the inception of the SAB, the group went on a field trip to Austin, Texas, where they
participated in the Martin Luther King, Jr. March, visited The University of Texas, Huston-Tillotson College
and the Texas Capitol. While at the Capitol, the students toured the building and learned about Texas
history. After the tour was completed, students met with Representative Ana Hernandez, who provided
and ate lunch with them. She answered all of the students’ questions about government and how she
became a Texas Representative. After lunch, the SAB attended the House of Representatives' Legislative
Session, where they were recognized for their service, and the seniors were presented on the floor of the
House of Representatives to represent the Student Advisory Board and were honored with a proclamation
for their achievements. The
students enjoyed the trip and
spending time with each other.
We would also like to recognize
our two Superintendent's Student
Advisory Board scholarship
winners! Congratulations to
seniors Iman Davis from North
Shore Senior High School, and
Jasmine Montemayor from
Galena Park High School.
Galena Park ISD and Dr. Williams
would like to thank the SAB for
their leadership and service.
