MUSTANG MANIA
he North Shore Mustangs took on the Duncanville Panthers in the 2018 6A Division I State
Championship Game for 48 minutes of intense back-and-forth football, but the game would be
decided by who had their hands on the ball last.
T
With only 3 seconds left in the game and North Shore trailing Duncanville, 36-35, Coach Kay, North Shore
Head Coach, went for the one play that could give his team the title of Champions, the Hail Mary. The
Hail Mary is known to be the pass that can make history or lead to defeat.
With time winding down, North Shore quarterback, Dematrius Davis, launched one last deep pass from
midfield to the end zone. Wide receiver, AJ Carter, jumped up and caught the game winning pass while
covered tightly by three Duncanville defenders, making the final score of the game, 41-36.
"We practice the Hail Mary every Thursday at the end of
practice," said Davis. "We never thought we would do
it, but we did it today and it happened. It worked."
North Shore won its third state championship,
completing a perfect 16-0 season. Sophomore
quarterback, Demetrius Davis, was named the MVP
Offensive Player of the Game and the MVP Defensive
Player of the Game was secured by senior linebacker,
Jordan Revels.
Congratulations to the North Shore Mustangs!
