hospitals and doctor’s offices in a variety of roles.
These roles include patient care and office clerical
work. In most offices, the Medical Assistants are the
front line of communication with patients.
“When you go to a doctor’s office, the medical
assistant is the first line of care who will take the
patient’s vitals and prepare the room for nurses or
doctors,” Diane Johnson, program coordinator for
medical assist said. “Most of the Medical Assistants
will continue their education and move on to
different positions in the medical field”
The Fab Four will begin clinicals soon and then take
state exams. Once completing these requirements
and walking across the stage to receive a high
school diploma, these students can begin their
career as medical assistants immediately. All of the
girls have plans to continue their education after
graduation. Esmeralda, Jolie and Jessica plan to get an associate’s degree and work toward becoming
registered nurses. Wendy has plans to attend the University of Texas-Austin to get her nursing degree, and
she ultimately wants to become a psychiatrist.
“The Medical Assist program was a platform for us to jump start our careers
in the medical field,” Jolie said. “I really did enjoy this program, and I am
looking forward to my future career.”
Principal Jeff Hutchinson is excited for these ladies to fulfill their dreams
of beginning a career in the medical field. He has offered his guidance
and leadership for the four years the girls have been at Early College High
School.
“Without a doubt these four wonderful, young ladies would not have the
opportunity before them if it was not for the graciousness and generosity
of the GPISD Board of Trustees, Dr. Angi Williams, GPISD Superintendent
of Schools, and Mrs. Elizabeth Lalor, GPISD Associate Superintendent,”
Principal Hutchinson said.
Thanks to the partnership between Galena Park ISD and San Jacinto
College, the Fab Four are about to have a world of possibilities at
