School Safety

Safety is a top priority in GPISD, and we have various measures in place to protect
students, staff, and visitors from harm. Just as musicians know the importance of

effective practice to ensure a flawless performance, our security team understands
the value of ongoing training to ensure the safety and well-being of our school
community. We have School Resource Officers at each campus and daycare
facility. All officers complete training in Active Shooter Response and Patrol Rifle

exercises. Our Security and Emergency Management Team also partners with other
first responders in a program called “Tear it Up Before We Tear Down.” This program
allows us to make full use of a building slated for demolition as a training facility
for intruder drills, safety exercises, and emergency management collaboration.

These opportunities are an advantage for the District’s prevention, mitigation,
preparedness, response, and recovery because they provide an opportunity for
the police, fire department, paramedics, and other first responders to learn about
the District’s security procedures. By working together, GPISD and first responders

create a safer environment, allowing students to reach their full potential.
