Student Activities
Extracurricular activities provide students with the opportunity to develop social
skills, leadership qualities, and time management abilities. Galena Park ISD (GPISD)
features more than 200 student clubs ranging from student council, to honor
societies, boys and girls clubs, and special interest organizations. The District also
invests in award-winning elective options for our secondary students in the fields
of fine arts, Career and Technical Education, foreign language, military readiness,
and athletics. One understands the value placed on helping students find and
develop their talents by simply walking the halls of any GPISD secondary campus
and hearing the varied sounds of a band tuning their instruments, actors rehearsing
their lines, or a coach giving a rousing half-time pep talk. Throughout the year,
students can challenge themselves by participating in various competitions
including elementary and middle school academic meets; spelling bees in English,
French, and Spanish; creative writing competitions; elementary soccer; and
robotics to name a few. Our District is unique in offering a middle school swim
program with many participants continuing on to high school swim and water
polo teams. Clearly, GPISD recognizes it takes many individual notes to create a
beautiful harmony, and by encouraging participation in extracurricular activities,
we are helping students not only enhance their academic performance, but also
develop valuable life skills that will serve them well beyond their school years.
