1.4 INPUT FROM PROFESSIONAL STAFF AND/OR PATRONS INTO THE POLICY MAKING
PROCESS
The Board recognizes community support for the district’s schools is a vital part of their success, and
Board trustees work hard to maintain an open-door policy for community input. At monthly board
meetings, parents, students, staff and community members may address the Board during the Audience
Item section of the board agenda. Frequently, board workshops are held to introduce proposed policies,
and provide adequate time for discussion prior to consideration of policy adoption at future monthly
meetings.
Throughout the year, district administrators offer feedback to the board on proposed local policies from
parents, students, teachers, and community members. Also discussed with these stakeholders are topics
such as the academic calendar, the State of the District, standardized testing, district growth, district goals,
and student dress code, to name a few. Input is regularly sought from various committees, such as the
District Planning and Advisory Committee, the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Board, the Teacher
Leadership Council, and the Teacher Leadership Team.
