French and Spanish Spelling Bees
In addition to hosting the traditional SCRIPPS spelling bee,
Galena Park ISD also offers both French and Spanish Spelling
Bees each year as a way to spotlight the District’s foreign
language offerings. After each campus competition, the top
10 finalists compete in a district competition and are awarded
scholarships as well as medals.
District Academic Meets
The Galena Park ISD’s Advanced Academics
Department hosts two Academic Meets annually, one
for elementary and one for middle school. These meets
promote learning and competition and have grown
considerably over the past five years. In 2017, 210
middle school students participated in events including
calculator applications, dictionary skills, social studies,
science, extemporaneous writing, listening skills, and
modern oratory, among others. GPISD’s Elementary
School Academic Meet included more than 500
students in 2017. The Board’s support of the District
Academic Meet speaks to their support of high achievement for all students.
District Multimedia Festival
The Galena Park ISD Technology Department hosted its 15th annual
Multimedia Festival in the spring 2017 semester. Approximately
450 K-12 students celebrated their hard work and accomplishment
by presenting their technology projects and attending an awards
ceremony. The multimedia project categories included coding, graphic
design, choice challenge and 3D digital modeling. The contest medals
presented to our student winners are designed by GPISD students each
year. During the festival, students were able to interact with the coding
projects and robot demonstrations created by the award-winning Team
Robotics students from Galena Park High School. This festival is a team effort and
would not be successful without the help and support of our Board trustees.
