        Fast on Facts Competition
Foundational learning of basic arithmetic operations has been shown
to be powerful preparation for high school and/or early algebra. To
encourage achievement in mathematics, Galena Park ISD has hosted
an annual Fast on Facts Competition for the past five years.  This
competition is to challenge students, in Kindergarten through 5th
Grade, to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in automaticity and
rapid recall of math facts. Trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place are
awarded to the top-scoring campuses in the District.  Mastering these
basic skills is necessary in order to advance in math, and ultimately
correlates with later success in college and the workplace.

                                             GPISD Science Fair
Galena Park ISD  hosted our 3rd Annual District Science Fair, with
a total of 165 participants.  Students investigated and practiced
experimental design in the areas of chemistry, physics, consumer
science, biology, and behavioral science.  Some of the exceptional
investigations included topics such as Electrolyte Challenge, and
PVC Pipe Music.  Trophies and awards were presented to first,
                                                  second, and third place winners.

        Science Survivor Series (S3) Competition
Science Survivor Series is an annual event held for 3rd, 4th
and 5th graders from all 15 GPISD elementary school
campuses.   Each year 90-100 third, fourth and fifth grade
students work as a team to problem-solve, and use critical
thinking and engineering skills.  Campus teams compete in
a series of challenges in three problem-solving categories:
Academic Event, Building Event and Creativity Event.
