5. Commitment to
a Code of Ethics
5.4 DEMONSTRATIONS OF COMMITMENT ON THE PART OF EACH BOARD MEMBER TO THE
CODE OF ETHICS ADOPTED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE NATIONAL SCHOOL
BOARDS ASSOCIATION, OR A CODE OF ETHICS DEVELOPED AND ADOPTED BY THE BOARD
ITSELF
Galena Park ISD Board trustees work harmoniously with the superintendent as a true “Team of Eight”
and serve the GPISD community as a cohesive unit. A majority of the current Board membership has
remained the same since 2009.
Board trustees review the Board Member’s Code of Ethics annually at their Team of Eight Training.
During training, a Board Self-Evaluation is conducted, which assesses the status of the Board/
Superintendent Team. The Board also revisits and establishes new goals during this time of reflection, and
reviews all policies from the locally-developed Board Operating Procedures Manual.
As dictated in the Board Members’ Code of Ethics, the Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees are adept
at being open-minded and respecting the majority decision of the Board in matters of policy-making,
finance, personnel, and students. They also excel at being responsive to employees, parents, and community
members by addressing all concerns to the Superintendent, who delegates the concern to the appropriate
administrator to ensure compliance with local policies and established procedures. Most importantly, they
maintain a laser-focus and commitment to following ethical and educational standards which translates to
doing what is best for ALL students.
GPISD trustees promote the best interests of the District, and, in doing so, demonstrate the educational
and ethical standards.
