01 FUNCTIONS AS A POLICY-MAKING BODY
1.3- ACTIVE SCHOOL BOARD SUPPORT FOR
THE SUPERINTENDENT AND OTHER SCHOOL
PERSONNEL IN CARRYING OUT POLICIES
The GPISD Board of Trustees utilizes its strong
relationship with the superintendent of schools
to carry out the day-to-day operations
required to achieve high standards of
excellence Effective communications
between Dr John Moore, the superintendent,
and school board members are essential
Board members convey their policies and
decisions to Dr Moore, who is responsible for
sharing those policies and decisions with the public, ensuring everyone understands the
direction the District is taking This transparency fosters trust and encourages community
involvement in the educational process When board members and the superintendent
communicate openly, with a united voice, they create an environment where stakeholders
feel valued and heard
The Board actively maintains its close
relationship with the superintendent by
communicating all parent, staff and
community inquiries or concerns brought
to their attention, as well as serving as
community liaisons for the District Board
trustees are deeply invested and well-known
in the community, and as a result, stakeholders
often bring questions, suggestions, and
concerns to them Our trustees listen to
constituents and obtain a full understanding of
their concerns, while remaining noncommittal,
as complaints may ultimately be brought to
the Board on appeal The trustees then refer the concerned party to the superintendent or
other appropriate administrator, who addresses the concern(s) according to the applicable
policy, as outlined in BBE (LOCAL) This process empowers campus and district administrators
to work in the best interest of all stakeholders, and it recognizes the superintendent as the
district’s leader It is worth noting the Board entrusts district and campus staff to use their
professional knowledge and judgment to carry out their job responsibilities and recognizes
that while being responsive to community concerns is important, their primary role is to
provide governance to the District In order to present a unified voice with Dr Moore, trustees
immediately direct all media inquiries concerning school district personnel, operations or
policy to the appropriate district spokesperson This serves to alleviate
any role confusion and publicly supports the superintendent’s role as the BUILDING ON A
District’s leader
