Keys To Success: Parental Involvement

Parental Involvement plays a crucial
role in Galena Park ISD’s (GPISD) legacy
of academic excellence. Parent
and family engagement begins with
parents attending campus and District
events, serving on District committees
and being a part of decision-making.
When parents are involved, they
create a supportive and engaged
learning environment. To that end,
the annual Title I Parent & Family
Engagement Meeting is a testament
to our unwavering commitment to
ensuring our parents are well-informed
regarding their rights and responsibilities
and are viewed as valued members of Parents Play A Crucial Role In Galena Park ISD
the educational community. This event,
eagerly anticipated by parents, educators, and community members alike, is more than just a
meeting–it’s a celebration of collaboration, shared goals, and the collective drive to provide
every student with the support they need to succeed.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at the Joyce Zotz Education Center,
was centered around empowering families and providing them with tools to better support
their children. Through interactive sessions and informative presentations, Dr. Seretha Augustine,
Senior Director for Student Support Services, Vanessa Squirrell, Director for Family Engagement
and School Climate, and many others ensured parents were provided with resources to actively
participate in their child’s education. With this knowledge it is our hope that parents will become
advocates and partners in their child’s learning journey.
GPISD is a rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds, and the annual Title I
Parent & Family Engagement Meeting reflects our commitment to honoring our
diversity. This inclusive approach ensures every family feels welcome and valued,
reinforcing the District’s dedication to creating an equitable
educational experience for all students. As a cornerstone
of our vision of a stronger community, the meeting fosters
a partnership between families and schools, creating a
cohesive support network extending beyond the classroom.
This unbreakable bond between students, teachers, and
parents inspires pride and commitment across generations. In
GPISD, every family is valued, every voice is heard, and every
student is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Together, we continue to build on a legacy where education
is a shared journey enriched by the diverse contributions of our
