Reflections On An Amazing Year

dedication by empowering our students on

ISD are well-equipped to pursue their careers
and interests after graduating because of educators devoted to student success. While there
are many great things happening throughout the District, we would like to take a moment to
highlight a few from the 2021-2022 school year including the following:
• Aaron Quintero and Denneshae Jones, Galena Park High School Debate Team Members,
advanced to the UIL State Speech and Debate Competition
• North Shore Senior High School Director of Bands, Mr. Shane Goforth, was recently elected
to serve as the 2022 Band Division Vice-President of the Texas Music Educators Association
Executive Board
• Several students advanced to All-State Choirs
• 40+ students were named Advanced Placement Scholars and many recognized by the
College Board’s National Hispanic and African American Recognition Programs
• Galena Park High School welding teacher, Mr. Marcos Rodriguez, was named Educator of
the Year at the ABC/CMEF Workforce Development Awards Ceremony
• Sam Houston Elementary teacher, Mr. Patrick Rodriguez, was one of 20 teachers in the
Houston-area to receive the Difference Maker in Education Award by Mostyn Law
• Makayla Rodriguez, Cimarron Elementary student, placed 2 in the Houston Livestock

Show and Rodeo Trailblazers Committee Writing Competition
• The Galena Park High School and North Shore Senior High School Indoor Percussion
Ensembles both earned gold medals at the 2022 Texas Color Guard Circuit State Finals
• 50 North Shore Senior High School students and five Purple Sage Elementary students
became published authors through the iWrite Literacy Organization
• North Shore Football Head Coach, Jon Kay, was named the 2021 Dave Campbell’s Texas
Football 6A Coach of the Year
We are truly blessed to have an amazing group of smart, talented, hard-working students and
staff members who deserve our unwavering support. We hope as you read this edition of the
Galena Park Schools (GPS) Magazine, you are reminded of why Galena Park ISD is a Great
