READY TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY
t the August Galena Park I.S.D. (GPISD) Board of Trustee meeting, Noe Esparza and Norma
Hernandez were sworn in by Judge Joe Stephens to fill Position 6 and Position 7 of the GPISD Board
of Trustees. The vacancy in Position 6 was created by the resignation of Trustee Minnie Rivera, and
APosition 7 became vacant upon the passing of long-time Board member, Dawn Fisher.
Noe Esparza, appointed to fill Position 6, is a graduate of Galena Park High School. He works as a Regional
Director at the Donaldson Company, and has attended San Jacinto College-North and the University of
Houston. Mr. Esparza is married, and is the proud father of two sons, both of whom have graduated from
GPISD schools. He remarked, “I want to serve our community and see our children succeed.”
Norma Hernandez, appointed to fill Position 7, is a graduate of Harlingen High School, the University of
Texas-Rio Grande Valley, and Texas Southern University. She is a former teacher and registrar, having
served 38 years at Galena Park High School until her retirement in 2017. She is married, and her daughters
are graduates of Galena Park High School. She looks forward to working with her new colleagues on the
Galena Park I.S.D. Board of Trustees “to give back to the District that has played such an important part in
[her] life.”
The appointments of both Norma Hernandez and Noe Esparza were unanimously
approved by the Board. Ramon Garza, Board President, stated, “While we will truly
miss both Ms. Rivera and Mrs. Fisher and are forever grateful for their service to our
students, the Board is excited to welcome our new colleagues, who bring their
own perspectives, experiences and knowledge. We look forward to serving
our great community with Mrs. Hernandez and Mr. Esparza as part of our
Team of 8.”
