Professional Development Days
Continuous opportunities to attend professional development throughout the year allow
teachers to stay current with the latest shifts in pedagogy, including technology resources
which never ceases to change� Galena Park ISD’s Board of Trustees plays a vital role in
supporting the professional development of teacher by ensuring the calendar, which they
approve, includes dedicated time for professional growth and preparation�

The current calendar includes pre-service professional development days before the
start of the school year which ensures teachers have the time and resources needed to
prepare classrooms, review curriculum, collaborate with colleagues, and receive targeted
training� Also, the calendar includes one day each year for a conference-style professional
development for which teachers are able to choose from over a hundred different offered
courses to attend and gain the knowledge they need in their specific areas� These days lay
a strong foundation for instructional success and help teachers feel confident and ready to
support student learning�

Additionally, the Board’s commitment to including monthly professional development and
training days throughout the year reflects a deep understanding of the importance of
continuous learning� These regularly scheduled opportunities allow teachers to refine their
instructional strategies, stay updated on best practices, and address the evolving needs of
their students�

Through the approval of a calendar which prioritizes professional development, the Board
of Trustees affirms its dedication to empowering educators, enhancing instructional quality,
and ultimately improving student outcomes� This strategic support reinforces a culture of
excellence and lifelong learning within the district�
