03 SUPPORT FOR EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCE IN ACCORDANCE

WITH STATE-ESTABLISHED STANDARDS

Behavior Technicians
In recent years, District leaders recognized a
connection between behavioral problems and
student academic struggles� In an effort to address
this concern, the Board of Trustees approved the
hiring of Special Education Behavior Technicians�
These unique staff members are specifically
trained to provide immediate and direct support
to students with disabilities who exhibit disruptive
behaviors� Technicians assist students in the
classroom, providing individualized support and
guidance to help them stay engaged and on
task, as well as teach essential social skills, promote
positive interactions, and reduce disruptive
behaviors� The goal is to help students remain
in their regular school environments rather than
being placed in a more restrictive setting�

Retired Teachers as Support
A focus on more time on task for students, targeted instruction in the classroom, and student
growth helps ensure student success in GPISD� The implementation of a robust intervention
program, which includes interventionists, college tutors, and retired professionals, provides
students additional time to develop needed skills� Galena Park ISD has the great opportunity
to provide targeted support to campuses with the greatest need through our Retired
Teacher Tutor Program� Supported by the Board of Trustees, the district is able to fund retired
teachers who provide targeted support for grades K-5 in math and reading in both English
and Spanish�
