04 SUPPORT FOR EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS AND
SCHOOL TRANSFORMATION INITIATIVES
Multi-tiered Dual Credit Student Options
The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees has supported
and driven the need for additional College Readiness
opportunities for students consistently This year is
no exception with a district goal objective and Key
Performance Indicator (KPI) targeting this area The
dual credit partnerships have expanded to include
San Jacinto College, McMurry University, Tarleton State
University, and Houston Community College, providing
more opportunities for our students Through these
partnerships, Galena Park ISD offers three pathways for
Dual Credit (DC):
• Academic Dual Credit
• Technical (CTE) Dual Credit
• Modified Early College Academy (MECA)
Additionally, the Board subsidizes the cost of tuition for students which has significantly impacted
their financial ability to participate Students are charged only $60 per course, including
textbooks This support has led to tremendous growth in the program since its inception More
students are striving to complete their associate degrees prior to graduating from high school
Board trustees have been instrumental in expanding access to CTE technical dual credit
programs for the past several years Recognizing the financial barriers faced by many
students, the Board allocated $45,000 to cover equipment and supply costs for economically
disadvantaged students This investment has ensured equitable participation and helped
grow enrollment in high-demand dual credit pathways Their commitment to removing
financial obstacles demonstrates a strong belief in preparing all students for postsecondary
success and high-skill, high-wage careers
