Instructional Coaching

It is part of GPISD’s long-range plan for
instructional improvement to ensure all
teachers are provided the support they
need, not only through calendar professional
development days, but also throughout the
year� This is provided through the Board-
approved positions of Instructional Coaches
and Specialists� Although in the current
educational environment, many school
districts are in a position of having to eliminate
supplemental positions, the GPISD Board
of Trustees has continued to prioritize these
positions each budget year, including the
2024-2025 school year�

Coaches are instructional and curriculum specialists, resource providers as well as data
coaches, who work side-by-side with teachers to improve student learning� Instructional
coaches use a proven coaching cycle with teachers to set and reach improvement goals
which have an unmistakable, positive impact on students’ lives� The trustees also provide
for coaches to receive the needed professional learning to ensure they can navigate the
complexities of helping educators, develop a deep understanding of a comprehensive,
focused set of teaching practices, communicate effectively, lead well, and work in systems
that foster meaningful professional learning�

Many teachers initially select and remain in Galena Park ISD because of the generous
amount of professional learning opportunities and teacher support provided by the coaches
and specialists�
