05 COMMITMENT TO A CODE OF ETHICS
5.3-EVIDENCE OF ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS IN DEALING WITH PROFESSIONAL CONTRACTS,
GRIEVANCES, AND DISMISSAL PROCEDURES
The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees works
collectively with the expectation that all
district employees will be treated fairly and
in accordance with district policies as well
as federal and state law� Further, the Board
understands it does not have either the expertise
nor the day-to-day responsibility to execute
those laws, rules, and policies� At each regular
meeting, the Board provides an opportunity for
stakeholders, including employees, to address
the Board on any matter of concern relating to
the district, including any complaints relating
to working conditions� School board members
support the superintendent by upholding district
policies through any grievance proceedings�
Over the past two years, the Galena Park ISD
Board of Trustees has conducted two Level III
grievances, both resulting in the District policies
and actions being upheld�
The Board strives to hold all discussions
regarding an employee’s contractual status
with the District in closed session because
of the sensitivity of such
discussions, and in an effort
to preserve the integrity of
the process� Their decisions
regarding an employee’s
contractual status come
from an informed, ethical,
and empathetic standpoint
and always align with the
appropriate Board policy�
When circumstances dictate,
trustees act swiftly to uphold
the core values established
by the Board’s Code of Ethics
and the District’s core values,
while keeping in mind what is BUILDING ON A
best for students� LEGACY
