5.4-DEMONSTRATIONS OF COMMITMENT ON THE PART OF EACH BOARD MEMBER TO THE
“ETHICS FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS” PUBLISHED BY THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL
BOARDS, OR A CODE OF ETHICS DEVELOPED AND ADOPTED BY THE BOARD ITSELF

The Galena Park ISD Board of Trustees works together harmoniously with the superintendent
as a true Team of Eight and serves as a model to the community, staff and students

Board trustees review the Board Members Code of Ethics at their Team of Eight Training
During this training, a Board Self-Evaluation is conducted, which assesses the status of the
Board/superintendent team Trustees also revisit and establish new goals during this time and
review all policies from the Board Operating Procedures Manual

As dictated in the Board Members Code of Ethics, the Galena Park ISD trustees are adept
at being open-minded and respecting the majority vote as the decision of the Board
in matters of policy-making, finance, personnel, and students They also excel at being
responsive to employees, parents, and community members by addressing all concerns to
the appropriate administrator to ensure compliance with local policies Most importantly,
they are laser-focused and committed to following ethical and educational standards which
translates to doing what is best for ALL students

Trustees promote the best interests of the District as a whole, and, to that end, they
demonstrate the following educational and ethical standards as a matter of operating
        procedures:
             • Bring about desired changes through legal and ethical procedures, upholding and
enforcing all laws, State Board of Education rules, and court orders pertaining to
               schools

             • Make decisions in terms of the educational welfare of all children in the District,
regardless of ability, race, creed, ethnicity, sex, or social standing

             • Recognize that decisions must be made by the Board as a whole and make no
personal promise or take private actions that may compromise the Board

             • Focus Board action on policy making, goal setting, planning, and evaluation, and insist
on regular and impartial evaluation of all staff

             • Work together with the superintendent during board meetings to maintain an
atmosphere that allows the Team of Eight to work harmoniously and serve as an
example to students, employees and the community
             • Adhere to the Board Operating Procedures

             • Support and protect school personnel in the proper performance of their duties
             • Vote to appoint the best qualified personnel available after consideration of the
               superintendent’s recommendation

             • Hold confidential all matters pertaining to school that, if disclosed, may needlessly
injure individuals or the schools, and respect the confidentiality of information that is
               privileged under applicable law
