The Board of Trustees has been
instrumental in driving the success of
our Energy Management, Maintenance,
and Lifecycle projects, ensuring
both operational efficiency and
environmental responsibility� Their
commitment has enabled initiatives
such as the award-winning TEMA
Project of the Year, three campus
lighting projects, which significantly
reduced energy consumption while
creating a healthier, more sustainable
learning environment�

The Galena Park ISD Energy Management Department was recently named the Texas
Energy Managers Association (TEMA) Program of the Year� TEMA promotes the responsible
use of public funds through energy management and sustainability� They establish the
highest quality of ethics and efficiency in energy management, and Galena Park ISD’s
Energy Management Department maintained those ethics and efficiency with its focus on
reducing energy usage and costs since 2017� GPISD took a comprehensive approach to
energy management by focusing on reducing and adjusting scheduled operating times,
implementing in-house energy audits, establishing an Energy Committee to guide the
development of the Energy Program, and focusing on equipment retrofit projects to earn
utility incentive money for the District� These efforts reduced the District’s total electrical
load by 845KW all while maintaining approximately 4,778,189 sq� ft� of buildings� GPISD has
developed an Energy Program that is a consistent producer of savings�
