Creating Bridges To Success
hen we hear conversation about
“matches,” we think of relationships,
Witems that coordinate, and possibly
even tools to start a fire. Well, in Galena Park
ISD (GPISD) two outstanding seniors were a
match for much more lucrative and exciting
reasons. North Shore Senior High School seniors
Lucia Baños and Joeramon Tijerina are not only
alumni, but they are also 2022 QuestBridge
National College Match Scholarship recipients!
That means these outstanding young graduates
will attend one of the 48 best colleges in the
nation on four-year scholarships! Out of over
17,900 applicants, Lucia and Joeramon were Lucia Baños Matched With Duke University
among the 1,755 finalists that QuestBridge
matched with prestigious postsecondary institutions.

QuestBridge is a national nonprofit that connects the nation’s most exceptional seniors with
leading institutions of higher learning to further their opportunities. Match Scholarship recipients
are admitted early to QuestBridge college partners with four-year scholarships that are
provided by the colleges and universities.
This program provides students with an
opportunity to receive an affordable
education at a prestigious university.
QuestBridge’s college partners include
Duke, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale–to
name a few. The Match Scholarship is
offered by the college which also covers
the full cost of attendance including tuition,
room and board, books and supplies, and
even travel expenses!
Lucia Baños was matched with Duke
University, and Joeramon Tijerina was
Joeramon Tijerina Matched With Columbia University matched with Columbia University.
