04 SUPPORT FOR EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS AND

               SCHOOL TRANSFORMATION INITIATIVES

4.3- SUPPORT FOR INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS INITIATED BY THE DISTRICT

Every student in Galena Park ISD has a different road to success, so the Board champions
a wide variety of programs throughout the District allowing for a creative, flexible
environment to meet their needs GPISD students’ successes, whether in the classroom or
on a competitive field, are largely due to the consistent support of innovative educational
initiatives and programs supported by trustees who always show their pride

Faced with a lack of available, local, quality medical care, Galena Park ISD, in partnership
with Legacy Community Health Clinics, operates four school-based clinics, establishing
GPISD as the first and only public school district in Texas to have Legacy Clinics

             • North Shore Senior High School
             • Green Valley Elementary School
             • Cloverleaf Elementary School / Almatha Taylor School-based Clinic (ATC)
             • Galena Park Middle School

This partnership provides students, their siblings,
staff, and families access to affordable, high-
        quality pediatric and behavioral health
services during the school day Children can
be cared for and return to class, affording
parents the convenience of not having to miss
work For some working families and single
parent homes, these school-based clinics have
been lifesavers This past year, Legacy also
started providing dental services for children
at one of the campus locations (ATC), which
        include exams, x-rays, sealants, extractions,
        fillings, and complete cleanings

Currently, Legacy has served over 20,000
students and siblings across the greater GPISD
community who otherwise would not have
        access to high quality care

        Fine Arts Academy
Galena Park ISD is committed to fine arts education Two new fine arts academies were
opened in existing elementary schools, Cimarron and Pyburn Elementary Students attending
these two academies have access to a comprehensive arts education in addition to
traditional academic subjects The Galena Park ISD Fine Arts Academies offer a variety of art
disciplines, including visual arts, music, theater, and dance An emphasis is placed on hands-
on learning, creative expression, and the development of artistic skills and appreciation
Students also have exciting opportunities to engage in real-world fine arts education through
        additional field trips
