04         SUPPORT FOR EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS AND

               SCHOOL TRANSFORMATION INITIATIVES



                                         The Elementary Prose & Poetry Showcase is an annual event
                                         which allows Kindergarten through Fifth grade students to recite
                                         prose or poetry in front of a live audience� This event enhances
                                         students’ education by providing a meaningful platform for them
                                         to express their creativity, develop their voice, and celebrate
                                         their literacy skill�


                                         The UIL Prose and Poetry competition is a platform that enhances
                                         students’ critical thinking, public speaking, and literary analysis
                                         skills while fostering confidence and creativity� This competitive
                                         event allows students to deeply engage with diverse literary
                                         works, develop their interpretative abilities, and master the art of
                                         performance - skills that are invaluable for college readiness and
        professional success� Through UIL Prose and Poetry, students not only improve their public
        speaking abilities, but they also gain a deeper appreciation for literature, develop empathy
        through character interpretation, and build a strong foundation in textual analysis�


        The Elementary STEM competition helps spark an interest
        in STEM education for 3 -5  grade students� Students

        participate in a Club Kickoff in October, then compete in
        the district competition in the Spring� The competition fosters
        hands-on learning, problem solving skills, and teamwork! The
        Middle School STEM Challenge is a competition that fosters
        critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration� Students
        competing in events apply scientific and mathematical
        concepts in real-world scenarios while enhancing their
        problem-solving and communication skills�


        The Encounters’ Challenge of the Mind project showcase is a culmination of a year’s worth
        of intense work from more than 650 students in grades four through nine� This program is
        designed to implement strategies that meet the unique social, emotional, and intellectual
        needs of gifted and talented students� By enabling students to excel, their opportunities
        for maximum growth and lifelong success are enhanced� The continuum of learning
        experiences fosters the development of advanced-level products, which are then shared
        with the community to highlight the achievements of these gifted students�


        The GPISD Multimedia & Coding Contest is a competition that invites participants to create
        and submit a campaign which includes creative works from a combination of different
        media, such as video, audio, graphic design, interactive graphics, and coding� Various types
        of hardware and software are used such as chromebooks, ipads, desktops, sphero robots,
        canva, adobe, google sites, and more� Prior to the Multimedia & Coding Contest each
        year, the District’s Technology Department holds a Medal Design Contest� Students from the
        middle and high schools compete to design the student medals awarded to the contest
        winners�
