Take Flight - All Systems Go
Students in Dr. Brian King’s Aerospace 2 class, at
North Shore Senior High School, joined 24 Texas
high schools on October 27 and 28 at the
th
th
Johnson Space Center in Houston for a NASA
Flight Profile Review of their SystemsGo rocket
designs. The students spent weeks perfecting
a mathematical model of their rocket’s flight
profile using Excel. They presented their flight
profiles (in teams of three) to a group of
engineers at NASA, including Chris Madsen,
the GN&C (Guidance Navigation & Control)
System Manager on the Orion spacecraft. On
November 25 , the students hosted a virtual
th
demonstration, which included an audience
Mario Obregon and Dr. King Discuss Designs
of their peers, campus leaders, and teachers.
Following their presentations, the students received feedback that was used to begin building
their actual launch vehicles. Student launches are scheduled to take place on March 12, 2023, in
Anahuac, Texas.
Dr. King stated “the six members of the
Aerospace 2 class, aka Mustang Transonic
Team, have surpassed all expectations for their
presentation. Team captains, Joeramon Tijerina
(future Engineering student) and Silverio Santos
(future missile designer for the Army), pushed
the team to be perfect in calculations and
measurements. It was the proudest moment of
my career.”
Good luck, Mustangs!
